A master's job is
never done, it lives on through the ages.
Installation was held on January 16th and Miss P. Rothkow sang several musical solos accompanied by Miss M. L. Jones. Refreshments were served in the social hall and a good time was had by those in attendance.
In the year of 1954, the degree team from Pacific Gas and Electric, were doing degrees at Clovis Lodge almost every month. There were a lot of their workers who joined Clovis Lodge about the same time.
On April 5th Past Master Christopher Kastner, passed from this world and the kind words spoken of him were, "That he would be remembered for his kindly and amiable disposition." He was 75 years old at the time of his death.
In April the problem of phone calls being charged to the Lodge was brought up and it was decided that the group that had used the Lodge on the night the calls were made would have them added to their respective rents at the end of the month.
In May House Rule Number 4 was changed to read that when any group used the dining hall and the dishes that it must employ the janitor of the lodge to wash said dishes at the cost of .08 per place setting, so in cleaning up after a dinner of 200 people the person made $16.00, this poor guy needed a better business manager!!! hehehe
On June the 3rd the degree team from the California Highway Patrol came to put on a degree for Bro. R. C. Matthews, who would later become a Past Master of Clovis Lodge. On June 10th, Bro. G. A. Sharer was elected to receive the degree's of Masonry in Clovis Lodge. Bro. Sharer has gone on to have a very illustrious career in the Masonic family from becoming Master of Clovis Lodge to a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason and everything in between and also in the Order of the Eastern Star. Simple words do not even attempt to do his career justice.
On July 1st there were 5 second degrees performed in one evening. Speaking form experience, I can tell you that these guys were very tired when they got done. On the 8th of this month, there was discussion on buying the baby grand piano that is still used in the Lodge room today. It was decided that the Eastern Star would have it tuned and repaired.
In August, Bro. T. Howison Jr., missed his first stated meeting in 18 years of service. He went on to serve as Secretary for a long number of years. In October Bro. R. L. Coker passed from this world. He was a member of Clovis Lodge for over 40 years and was Tyler for many years at the beginning of Clovis Lodge.
In November the property to the west of the Lodge was offered for sale for $7000.00, and the party who offered it was told that we would not be interested in the purchase. It may not have made much sense then, but it sure would make a world of difference now.
By motion and vote it was decided to change the by-laws to read that the stated meeting was to be held at 8:00 p.m. instead of 7:30 p.m., also the lowest bid was accepted on the printing of a roster for the Lodge with all of the member's name's.
